I'm thrilled to announce that we have selected Joyce MacDonald as the next CEO of Greater Public.
As you may know, Greater Public's board has spent the past year conducting a national CEO search, which included a wide pool of candidates from diverse professional backgrounds. Even within this impressive group, Joyce is a stand-out.
Her deep experience in media and marketing spans the past 35 years. Fourteen of those years were spent at NPR, first as Director of Station Relations and later as Vice President of NPR's Member and Audience Partnership program. During her tenure there, she demonstrated a skillful ability to cultivate communication between station affiliates and the network, a formidable task in the shifting times during which she served. Joyce's longstanding commitment to the success of stations, combined with her knowledge of and passion for public media, make her a perfect fit for Greater Public leadership.
She also served as NPR's Chief of Staff for three years and served as Interim President/CEO of National Public Media, where she managed public media sponsorship sales on behalf of NPR, PBS, and radio and television stations around the country.
Joyce is currently CPB's Vice President of Journalism, where she leads grant initiatives that support local, regional, and national public media journalism.
Simply put, Joyce’s energy, skill, and versatility are impressive. She brings significant knowledge of our industry as well as an understanding of the challenges that lie ahead. My board colleagues and I believe she will be an ideal visionary for stations as well as for the future of Greater Public.
Joyce will begin her new role on May 15, providing several weeks of continuity with Doug Eichten in advance of his planned retirement following the PMDMC in San Francisco in July.
I hope you'll join me and Greater Public's tireless board of directors in enthusiastically welcoming Joyce to the Greater Public family.
