Get Ready for PMDMC24!

Our team is excited to welcome you to San Diego on Monday, August 12! 🌞 Here are the details you’ll need to prepare for the 2024 Public Media Development and Marketing Conference. We encourage you to read the full update below to get prepared for a week of learning and peer support.

Before You Travel

What to Pack

Our conference is a business casual event, so plan to wear whatever makes you feel comfortable and professional. Be sure to pack extra layers to keep you warm inside the hotel conference rooms, which are typically highly air-conditioned. 🥶

Bring Your Station SWAG to Swap: The Public Radio Association of Development Officers (PRADO) is hosting a SWAG Swap in The Hub. Bring your station's swag—stickers, pens, koozies, and more—to trade with fellow attendees. While you're there, learn more about PRADO, including their mentorship program and Slack channel.

If you have not done so already, download the PMDMC 2024 mobile app with everything you'll need for the conference, including the full schedule, session details, sponsor updates, hotel maps, attendee roster, timely announcements, and more. Be sure to sign in to the app using the same email you used to register for the conference. If you have the app downloaded from last year, open it and look for the 2024 event. 📲

Start building your personalized agenda in the app. When you arrive next week, you can begin completing challenges and answering trivia for points in The Game and trade in your points for conference swag at the Game Prize Dispensary in The Hub (Sapphire - Level 4).

First Time in San Diego?

If you are headed to San Diego for the first time, you may not have a lot of free time to explore the city. Don't stress — longtime Greater Public supporter CARS has you covered. Check out their list of San Diego Hot Spots, as well as their team’s list of activities to sneak in on a time crunch to help make your trip more memorable. The Greater Public team has also created a list and map of fun things to do and places to eat & drink in San Diego. Check them all out to make the most of your time in “America’s Finest City!”

What to Expect on Monday

Hotel Check In

See our Hotel & Travel page for the best ways to get from the airport to the conference hotel. 

Hotel check-in begins at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, August 12. 🛎️ If you are participating in the Pre-Conference Cohorts that day, bring your luggage to Sapphire - Level 4 (Room 402) for a complimentary bag check. 🛅

Conference Registration

After you check into the hotel, make your way to Sapphire - Level 4 - Foyer to get your conference badge. Badges are required for all conference events. Registration will be open from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Monday, August 12 and beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Pre-Conference Cohorts

Monday, August 12 is Pre-Conference Cohort Day, which is free for all station attendees. Pre-conference cohorts do not require pre-registration. Just check the app for the wide range of groups and pick the topic that piques your interest. Cohorts run from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Wi-Fi

Complimentary conference wifi will be available throughout all meeting spaces. To access the conference wifi, use the network Hilton Honors Meeting and the password PMDMC24. 

Complimentary guest room Internet can be accessed by signing up for Hilton Honors, or by following these steps:

• Select Network: Hilton Honors (enter)
• Select: I have a promotion code (Guests are to bypass “Guest Name” and “Room Number” fields) (enter)
• Enter Promotion Code: PMDMC2024 (enter for Welcome Page)

Kick-Off

The PMDMC24 Opening Party, presented by KPBS and Lindblad Expeditions, begins at 6:00 p.m. on Monday on the Terrace of Sapphire - Level 4. We hope you’ll join us for bites, beverages, and networking. During the reception, Lindblad Expeditions will be offering all PMDMC attendees the chance to win a voyage to the Galápagos for your station. Be sure to connect with the Lindblad Expeditions and KPBS teams to learn how they have partnered to bring excitement to their pledge seasons. 

What to Expect on Tuesday

Morning Yoga

Join local San Diego yoga instructor Kaia Lynn from 6:00 - 7:00 a.m. for an energizing vinyasa flow on the Promenade Plaza overlooking the bay.

Registration

Get your conference badge (and let us know how we can help!) on Sapphire - Level 4 - Foyer, open from 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Keynotes and Sessions

The first full day of the conference will feature two keynote presentations and three blocks of break-out sessions. Use the app to build your personalized agenda.

YAYAHPs Happy Hour

Don’t miss your chance to plot your takeover of public media with other young and young-at-heart professionals at 6:00 p.m. at The Church by The Lost Abbey at 1313 J Street, only a 15 minute walk from the hotel. Don’t forget your badge!

Dine O’Round Dinners

Meet other attendees while experiencing the delicious fares of downtown San Diego. Dinners are not hosted by PMDMC staff, which means you’re responsible for the cost of your meal and drinks as well as making a reservation. Space is limited. RSVP by adding your name to one of the reservations here.

What to Expect on Wednesday

Morning Yoga

Join Vivekananda Yoga of San Diego from 6:00 - 7:00 a.m. for an authentic and traditional yoga session on the Promenade Plaza overlooking the bay.

Keynotes and Sessions

The final full day of the conference will feature one keynote presentation and three blocks of break-out sessions. Use the app to build your personalized agenda.

Closing Happy Hour

Join us from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. for the closing happy hour at Promenade Plaza with views of the San Diego Bay.
